I think one of the secrets to being really good at executive level recruitment is simply being tenacious. When I have a position to fill, I really won’t leave any stone unturned to find the right person. And once I’ve found them, there is a real art to convincing them that the position I’ve got makes real career sense for them. It’s not always easy. You need a real entrepreneurial drive and little bit of creativity to bring it all together. But that’s the bit I love - making it all happen.

As one of the founders of Carrera Partners, my passion and energy for people is what initially attracted me to the recruitment business. I started out in product and marketing management with leading companies such as Kraft, Simplot and Hallmark before recognising a unique opportunity that led to the development of the Carrera Partners business. I now specialise in the area of executive marketing recruitment. I’m loud, loyal, honest and believe very much in living the Carrera Partners brand.

I love working with people and helping to guide their careers. I have a number of candidates who I have placed several times; some of them started out in junior positions and are now senior executives and directors. It’s really satisfying to see someone grow and know you’ve been a part of that success. Of course, the job can also be difficult and stressful at times, so you need to have a good sense of humour as well.

The real secret to being a great sales person is listening. And I believe it’s a skill that I’ve successfully transferred to my career in recruitment. Having previously been a sales manager/director with leading companies including Nestle, Monsanto, Tattersalls, and United Distillers, I think I bring a high level of empathy to the process of matching clients and candidates. I specialise in senior sales roles and my approach is very service driven. I like to laugh and I believe work should be fun. If you’re no longer having fun, do something else.

It’s always satisfying to see people make good choices for their future. Big career decisions are a very personal thing. They can have a profound effect on people’s lives. So professionalism is paramount. To be good at this job, you need to continually put yourself in the shoes of the candidate and the client. You need a lot of empathy but at the same time you need to be honest and keep people’s goals realistic. So it’s always a balance.

I'm a psychologist by training so I have always had a real interest in people and how they behave. I love the people side of the business and I never tire of dealing with them. I get a great deal of satisfaction out of matching the right person with the right company. To do it well you need to be organised, you need to be sincere and you need to be a really good communicator.

Getting recruitment right starts with a focus on really understanding a candidate’s needs, goals and capabilities. Their CV can say one thing but when you engage them in conversation you often find that they have unique skills and experiences that run a lot deeper than what’s on paper. And it’s very often these skills that the client is really looking for. The little things that can make a big difference to their business. I never forget this. It’s something that always yields surprisingly useful information for the benefit of both parties and gives you a unique perspective from which to make quality decisions.

Dawn Grundy
I’ve been lucky enough to work across the FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing, and Telecommunications sectors, so I’ve been in the candidate’s shoes a number of times myself. I feel I have a really good understanding for matching a candidate’s needs to that of the client. When you get it right and the chemistry is there – it’s a great feeling. And it’s through these relationships that you can watch a person shape their life. That’s the most satisfying part.

There’s nothing better than finding the needle in the haystack, you just need to know where to look!! Having held Senior Sales and Management roles in services businesses as varied as Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines through to Commonwealth Bank and FCL Interstate Transport, I have extensive networks and truly understand the machinations of successful sales & marketing operations. This is key to responding to a brief with the right people. Equally important is developing strong client relationships to truly understand the challenges for the business, requirements of the role and ‘nailing it’ through human capital and talent sourcing. Hitting the beach is the best way to unwind and enjoy time with the family so when the sun’s shining, you’ll always find me there.

I really enjoy meeting new people, which is exactly what the Business Development role at Carrera involves. I’m a relationship builder - the face of Carrera Partners in the field. No meeting is ever the same. There are so many unique personalities in sales & marketing. I’m known for being very outgoing and sometimes a little hyperactive. Whether I’m at work or watching a game of footy, you can usually hear me before you see me.

As individuals, work becomes a very significant part of our lives so it makes sense to be employed in the right role for your personality, career progression and motivational needs. For organisations, finding people with the right skills and attitude is crucial to the success of the business. I am passionate about finding the right roles for my candidates and the right candidates for my clients. Bringing the two parties together successfully is a privilege for me. I have a strong background in recruitment and a genuine interest in people, which makes me approachable and a reliable advisor.

People are not commodities. They are valuable assets. When you invest in them, you reap a return. Great companies appreciate the critical link between high calibre employees and business performance. We facilitate it. But it takes a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Luckily I've got plenty of both. I specialise in FMCG, retail and trade sales and marketing positions. I’ve previously held roles at KPMG Peat Marwick, Mars Confectionery, Nestle, Cadbury Schweppes and SPC Ardmona and I’ve worked in the UK, Europe and NZ.

Sharyn Cocks
My background is in sales management and I’ve been fortunate to work for some great brands. I place a lot of emphasis in developing professional relationships with my clients and understanding the changing needs of their businesses. There’s nothing better than matching talented individuals to the clients’ needs; it’s so rewarding. I’m traditional at heart and I’m a current affairs and general knowledge junkie, so you will often find me reading to get my fill!

Rebecca Ketteringham
What can I say? I am addicted to the recruitment buzz! The ability to build relationships and really get to know my clients and their business, teamed with the excitement of finding the perfect candidate for them is totally exhilarating. I love that my job makes a difference, helping clients to hire the right people to grow their business or candidates to discover new opportunities to reach their own career goals. To hear the joy in a candidate’s voice when you tell them that they have their dream job... well, it’s just fantastic!

The versatility of recruitment means there is always a new challenge to overcome and I enjoy a challenge! It is incredibly satisfying to deliver on the expectations of clients and candidates, all whilst providing a high level of service. I strive to be the ‘go to’ consultant in my market. With a strong background in sales, account management and recruitment in the industrial, manufacturing and retail sectors, I now specialise in industrial and B2B sales recruitment. I believe in having fun in everything I do and approach my work with an easy-going personality and enthusiasm.

Work is something we spend a sizeable portion of our lives doing and I believe it should be something enjoyable. I thrive on meeting great people and matching them to their dream role. Providing that solution for both my candidates and clients is my idea of a satisfying day. I specialise in FMCG roles and have worked in the FMCG sector for over ten years. I’ve worked in the type of roles I now recruit for, which gives me a greater understanding of what is required for someone to succeed in such a role. I’m a passionate, dedicated person who genuinely loves going to work each day.

Helping others to achieve their professional goals is what I love about recruitment. After several years as a recruiter, I am still as passionate about it as when I first started. Knowing that I have helped to create a successful relationship by bringing together the candidate and client is a humbling experience. Being a genuine, honest and transparent person is what has attributed to my success as a recruiter today.

Rona Horsfall
I have worked in the recruitment industry for over 20 years and never tire of the satisfaction that comes from interacting with individuals and companies to ensure viable working relationships are formed and sustained. Achieving the right ‘cultural fit’ is a skill I pride myself on and it ensures both parties achieve their personal and business objectives. I specialize in corporate affairs, communication and marketing roles and have recruited for a number of sectors including FMCG, Property, Government, Professional and Financial Services. My reputation is underpinned by the commitment I give to providing an outstanding level of service to both clients and candidates and for filling difficult roles!

Robbert Sindorf
Whilst it is important to set achievable goals both personally and professionally, one must also dream. I love working with people to help them realise their dreams as finding the right role is inextricably linked to your happiness. I also get a huge kick out of putting people in roles who really drive a business and contribute to the bottom line. I have had an extensive sales career, most recently in senior sales management roles in FMCG (wine and Liquor). You'll notice my energy levels when you meet me and I apply this to all that I do. I love being outdoors, playing sports(mainly football...yes, I mean the only one that is actually played with the feet!) and most importantly having a good old laugh.
