01 / Are your key managers ready to leave?

Insight1

Almost half of Australia’s executives and top-level managers have mentally quit their organisation and are preparing to leave as the economy rebounds.

Talent-retention specialists Performability, recently surveyed almost 550 managers working for the nation’s top 100 listed companies. Nearly 75 per cent said they are attracted to roles in other organisations.

Jayne Marsh, Managing Director of Performability, says the survey paints a bleak picture of life at management level and could spell organisational chaos for companies as buoyancy returns to the job market.

“Performability surveyed managers to better determine the links between professional development, employee retention and leadership - what came through most strongly was the ‘stay-and-quit’ mentality at executive and management level,” Ms Marsh says. “A ‘stay-and-quit’ mentality is the mindset of employees who have already resigned in their minds, but are staying on because the job market is uncertain and they’re too scared or unmotivated to leave.”

69 per cent said they would remain in their current employment if they were offered a structured, ongoing development program, while 51 per cent would stay for better pay.
